About

Dr. Deepa Gupta was born in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, and currently resides and works in Almora, Uttarakhand. An accomplished scholar and writer, she earned her PhD from Rohilkhand University, Bareilly, with a thesis focused on the personality, poetry, and scholarship of Abdul Rahim Khan-i-Khana.

Dr. Gupta is widely recognized for her literary contributions, including:

  • Fiction: The popular short story collection Almora Ki Anna.

  • Historical Scholarship: Author of three definitive books on Rahim: Khan-i-Khana Rahim, A Rare Creation of Rahim, and Abdur Rahim Khan-i-Khana (published by Vani Prakashan), which includes her translations of Rahim’s entire body of work outside of his Persian writings.

  • Editorial Work: Editor of the anthology 21 Stories of Women’s Minds in Uttarakhand.

  • Forthcoming Works: Her upcoming novel, Huma Ka Pankh.

Beyond her writing, Dr. Gupta has made significant contributions to historical research. As part of the Aga Khan Trust for Culture research team, she worked alongside officials from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to conduct an in-depth study of Rahim’s Tomb and the surrounding heritage sites like Humayun’s Tomb and Sunder Nursery in New Delhi.

Her creative reach extends to cinema as the scriptwriter for the film Mauni Maa by renowned filmmaker Sharad Thakur. Deepa is also a prominent social advocate, serving as a Brand Ambassador for the Government of India’s "Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao" campaign.

She holds several leadership and advisory roles, including:

  • Member of the ICAR-Vivekananda Parvatiya Krishi Anusandhan Sansthan Women’s Cell.

  • President of the Sahitya Adab Trust.

  • Director of the Almora Literature Festival.

Formerly a lecturer at MGM Degree College, Sambhal, Dr. Gupta currently serves as a Hindi Lecturer in Almora.
